Piper Ann!

I’m embarrassed to admit that our precious, squishy, super laid-back little lady, Piper, was born almost 14 weeks ago… and I have yet to write a post – until now.

We are the anti-norm when it comes to having a new bebe in the house – constantly out of the house, naps on-the-go, babe outta mom and dad’s room immediately, etc.  It’s the way I love to roll.  That being said, I have really slacked on all of the things I was sure I would get done on my maternity leave: this blog would finally get back up and running, those baby announcements [which have pics from two months ago] would go out on time [they went out today!], and on and on.  Unfortunately, I started back at work last week and none of my big plans came to fruition. But ya know what?  I’ve had a hell of a good time with my sweet girls this summer and I look forward to catching you up on some of that over thPiper 3 months e next couple of weeks.

Until then, quick stats on our sweet girl who I, again, delivered drug-free [this one was a doozie!]…

I’ll be back next week; I promise!

Love, Erin

A…. What?

Well, seems I somehow jinxed myself in posting to the, ahem, entire freaking world via Facebook, as to what we were having…  Like, wait, what?

Ben and I went to the doctor’s office late last week for the big ‘ol honken anatomy scan to ensure everything with our little mister was going good.  The only kicker is that the ultrasound tech [the same one who told us we were having a little HE] kept referring to our baby as a SHE.  Ben and I eventually couldn’t take it anymore and we started laughing hysterically.  She asks what was so funny and I tell her that just a few weeks ago she told us we were having a boy.  She nervously laughs and tries to play it off while, I, on the other hand, start laughing even more but only because I’m crazy nervous.  I knew it.  I just knew it…

Fortunately for us, our baby seems to be in great healthy and everything looks great!  But wait, is it a he or she?  Fast forward to her gender scan [again] and she says GIRL.  Fast forward to me silently freaking the hell out while Ben continues to laugh uncontrollably.  Like, is this for real?  No way.

Our doctor [a friend of ours that we adore and completely trust] takes me back to do another, a tie-breaker, they call it.  I’m all like, “Tie-breaker?  It’s a boy, you silly people!”  Well, low and behold, Doc says, “Yep, I’m pretty sure it’s a girl.”  Pretty sure,  you say?  I’m sorry.  I don’t do well with that.  This is my whole future being turned upsidedown right now, so let’s be totally sure.  At Doc’s offering, I went back for another gender scan the next day and fortunately the babester wasn’t moving nearly as much this go-round.  So, yep… this happened.

I’m just praying I don’t have to say “JK, y’all!” anymore…

Poor, poor Ben…

A mom of two seemingly healthy, happy GIRLS [and that’s all that really matters!]

Big fish!

Embarrassingly enough, this was about a month ago, but I’m catching up – promise!   For Martin Luther King Day, Teigan and I ventured out to the Aquarium in Gatlinburg for a mommy-daughter day date.  We had such a fun day exploring, learning, and playing and Teigan took a special liking to the penguins and sharks [but only because they wouldn’t be allowed to get us].

We rounded out the day with lunch, a visit to see our friends at the soon-to-be-open Sugarlands Distilling Company, and home to bake blueberry and strawberry muffins – and have fun washing the dishes!  No, really.  Fun… washing the dishes!  ;c)  Great day.
Curiosity and exploration rock,

Super hero!

Getting ready...
Getting ready…
Throwin' it down, super-style!
Throwin’ it down, super-style!

So thankful that Crossfit Ktown not only allows Teigan to come in and take over the gym doing her own work-outs, but also that everyone there is completely okay with heplaying her new fav game, Super Hero!  This mostly involves her sing-yelling her own theme song and jumping off of anything far too high [therefore making you cringe and her have an even bigger smile].  It’s pretty darn adorable, especially when she throws on her makeshift cape and jumps into her homemade ship to fight off Captain Hook.

IMG_3470So, anyways, if anyone’s interested in hanging out in the sun room with us anytime soon, please step over the ship.  It’s now a part of our family…

Super mommy!

Bigger, Bigger

When I Get Bigger, Bigger by Teigan Slocum
Note: All words are original, exact quotes by Teigan Elizabeth Slocum, only to be put on virtual paper by Erin Beth Slocum

When I get bigger, bigger, I drink coffee, too.
When I get bigger, bigger, I wear scarf.
When I get bigger, bigger, I go to work.
When I get bigger, bigger, I brush my hair.
When I get bigger, bigger, I drink beer like daddy.
When I get bigger, bigger, I go run, too.
When I get bigger, bigger, I make mac ‘n cheese for breakfast.
When I get bigger, bigger, I have mommy juice.
When I get bigger, bigger, I pick up Hoolie & Rica’s poo.
When I get bigger, bigger, I wipe my own poo.
When I get bigger, bigger, I grow into a boy and have beard like daddy.
When I get bigger, bigger, I drive car fast like mommy.
When I get bigger, bigger, I be friend doctor.
When I get bigger, bigger, I mow lawn.
When I get bigger, bigger, I sit in front seat.
When I get bigger, bigger, I have keys, purse, and phone, too.
When I get bigger, bigger, I get big boobies like mommy [love her heart… if she only knew…].
When I get bigger, bigger, I grow one of those, too, daddy?

Yes, all of these have actually been spoken and most, more than once.  Ben learned after the last one was said that it was time to ensure he was wearing a towel at all times… All. Times.

Peace, love, and baby poetry & hilarity-
Teigan + Erin

Batting a Thousand

TeiganWell, as suspected, and as you can probably guess… IT’S A HE!

The lady giving the ultrasound said to us, “So what are you wanting?” and I respond with “Nothing!” which clearly made her laugh and be suspicious of what exactly we were doing there to begin with.   Of course, I meant that I didn’t care what we had.  Lesbihonest, I’ve not only told everyone under the sun that this is a boy, but I’ve also given away some of Teigan’s stuff because I was so sure it was a boy that all I cared about at that ultrasound was not being wrong.  Ha!  Thank goodness I was right.

Teigan and Baby Boy Slo will be three years and one month apart and I couldn’t be more excited that Teigan will have a little brother to boss around, errrr, share with and enjoy for the rest of her life.

I think I’m having a moment for the first real time in this pregnancy… Teigan gets a little brother… wow.  She’ll be just as lucky as I am with mine and Ben is with his, no doubt.  Happy.

Love on top,
-Mom to TWO!

New Year, New Run, New Me

January 1.  I was supposed to wake up refreshed, feeling optimistic, and being super positive – well, since I have a kid and apparently I’m no longer supposed to go out until I greet the morning crew at ‘bucks, wear the skankiest outfit that even a stripper would disapprove of, and drink far too much just because…

But truth be told, instead I woke up feeling bummed out and overwhelmed – an unfortunate theme for the past several weeks that I’m having a hard time knocking.  A couple hours went by and I decided that the best thing I could do was go on a really long wog [walk slash jog] since the sun was finally showing for the first time in days. [This was just one day after a decision to run five miles resulted in going to the bathroom in my tights less than a half-mile in… and continuing what I had set my mind to.  Don’t worry, it was just #1.  ;c)  Yep, I must be pregnant – and crazy.]

Anyways, with the sun in my eyes and Amos Lee playing in my ears, I took off.  This particular run was with a mission; to clear my head, to get back to being me.  I found myself lost in a part of my neighborhood I’ve not once ventured in the five+ years I’ve lived here and it felt so. damn. good.

Cheesy as it may sound, I gained a lot on this particular wog and I’ve decided it’s my mantra for 2014: Be curious and adventuresome with a cause and trust myself enough to take care of myself.

So, here’s to sunshine, getting lost, curiosity, adventure, self-worth, and remembering to pee before you leave the house for a long run!

Ho Ho Ho!

Having a super-active, vocal, and imaginative 2.5 year old at home is generally all-around chaos… Teigan’s “friends” [stuffed animals], her “babies” [again, stuffed animals], and every other possible thing she can use as part of her performances, stories, and activities are thrown all over the sunroom.  While I have to repeatedly tell myself that I’ll let the mess stay on the floor for a minimum of 10 minutes [as to not disrupt her next superhero missions] before we clean it up, it’s pretty darn amazing watching her mind at work these days.

Christmas, as you can imagine, was absolutely awesome.  Teigan had a blast helping us decorate the tree, watching Christmas movies on TV, learning about the spirit of Santa, and “helping” wrap the presents.  When it came to gifts, however, Teigan made the exclamation that “all of the other kids can have cookies and toys from Santa” and that she “just wanted some sticks.”  If only I could remind her of that when she’s 16… ;c)

We were so lucky to have Zach in town with us again, so all the grandparents and uncle’s were around for Teigan to play with.  It was wonderful.  As a big group, we spent Christmas Eve at Doug & Kathy’s and Christmas at my parents’ place.  One big ‘ol two-day-long par-tay.

Hard to imagine a wee-one joining us again for Christmas next year!  Bring on even more chaos!

8 days ’til we found out what #2 is… what’s your prediction?  I’m definitely saying boy.

And then there were six…

Y’all.  So this thing happened… It only lasted 12 weeks and 6 days [but who’s counting?], but I couldn’t stop eating, [mostly Cheez-Its].  My bedtime was strictly enforced by my eyelids at 7:30pm.  I had walking pneumonia for weeks because meds, well, they weren’t for me.  My car got awesome at completely unsafe swerves to the side of the road.  And me, well, I was feeling like payback was a bee-yotch.

Yep, I got a semen infection [Ladies, I know you’re gagging.  Men, I know you’re laughing.  Ben, I know you’re patting yourself on the back while laughing].

Hoolie, Rica, and Teigan are getting a new little rugrut to play with this June!

I’m 14 weeks along and, Lordy, my body totally freakin’ remembers what it’s doing.  My maternity clothes are, as of this past weekend, clean and hanging up.  Sigh.  I definitely wore two items to work this week, but only after having a full on tear-session in the bathroom over this wardrobe decision.  I swear.  Payback.

So, look forward to tuning into the madness as I do this all over again!  I’ll be sure to share all of the awesomeness so you all have just one more thing to keep you oh-so-entertained as you’re scanning the interwebs in bed at night: the good, the bad, and mostly the hilarious.

Peace, Love, and OHMYGOSH!

Oh, and PS: I’m training to do the Knoxville Half-Marathon on March 30 [yeah, at 7.5 months pregnant].  I’d appreciate daily prayers starting now.  ;c)

Safety first!

I did it!  I’m back!  Two weekends in a row – and it can only get better since I’m so seemingly out of practice!  Win!

I will get back to current life this coming week, but I wanted to share just a few more a-day-in-the-life-of…this-summer…

As you can tell, we spend seemingly every spare moment at the lake.  We’re so fortunate to have a place like that to retreat to whenever we’d like – no cell service, a seemingly endless supply of adult beverages, the ability to be as lazy or active as you’d like, and a guaranteed early bedtime [unless Zach is in town].  Speaking of Zach, here are some from 4th of July…
I could totally bore you all to tears with photos and [what I find to be] hilarious stories of the past year, but where’s the fun in that?  So, the next blog post will be all Christmas-y ‘n stuff.  That’s not gonna feel confusing when someone reads this, or anything… ha!

Always, Teigan’s mommy

Well, this is embarrassing…

Like it or not, folks, I’m baaaack!  And check out the URL – I’m all offish ‘n stuff [a birthday present that I’m finally taking advantage of].  It only took me 350 days to follow through with my New Year’s “Resolution”… I’m beyond  mortified!  But, better late than never?

So, since I can’t possibly detail the past year and, lesbihonest, all you guys care about are Teigan updates, here’s a year in the life of Teigan – by month through pictures.

Wow.  She’s changed!

I can’t wait to get started on this again.  Hooray!  Until next time [and I don’t mean next December], loves!

New Year’s Resolution…

… figure out the stupid photo upload thing and start posting again!  It’s therapeutic and somewhat fun for me. I sound like a broken record, but I promise I’m back on soon with all of my random hilarity.  Love you all – MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Okay, peeps – I promise I’ll make some time this week to fill you in on the past couple of weeks.  Too much on my plate; I’m sorry!  Be in touch soon.  :)

Pardon the interruption

So, apparently my blog is totally lame.  It won’t let me upload any more photos because I’ve hit the “max amount allotted” because my pictures are “too fantastical” [I made that part up].  Ugh!

So, as much as I want to tell everyone how awesome our Thanksgiving was with Uncle Z-man in town, about Teigan’s new crazy-cool habits of eating pencils and cleaning the floor on her hands and knees just like yours truly [still not sure if I should be proud or mortified], and how I started a legit fire in the kitchen tonight, I can’t possibly tell a good story without my beloved photo proof.  Gimme some time.  I’m workin’ on it.

In the meantime, I encourage you to get ready for Christmas with this lil’ gem of awesomeness…

… because nothing says the commemoration of the birth of Jesus like a beep in a box…

Backstage at the CMA’s!

Growin’ up

It’s Saturday – and, hopefully for most of us, the exceeding amount of food consumed these past couple of days haven’t put you in too much of a coma! Let’s all play with dog bowls and talk on our cell phones!

If you knew my weekend, you would know that this was just the perfect ending to it all.  At this point, all I could do was laugh!  But let me tell you, an entire bag of powdered sugar tracked all over the house by Hoolie and Rica made for one hell of a clean-up.  Aye!

Uh oh!

PS – For the record, the terrible two’s totally start at 18 months.  Like, on the freaking day.  Let’s just hope they end early, too, or else this mama is going to have an early-onset, third-life freak out!

Zeetus Lapeetus! It’s Laura!

Last weekend we had the distinct pleasure of having my absolute bestest friend in the entire world visit us for a long weekend.  Not only did this chica enter total happy-land having Laura here, but Teigan found her new best friend [looks like mama and daughter have even more in common than we thought!].

While we’ve been able to see each other at least once every year [despite living on different sides of the US] since graduating high school, it’s been more than two years since Laura and I have had serious, multiple day, one-on-one time.  And boy, did we make the most of it!  Laura got into town around lunch on Thursday and we immediately went to doing what we do best – playing and eating – with Teigan, of course.  Thursday night was spent showing Knoxville how GB & BB roll as we spent the evening playing at a rooftop bar on Market Square; enjoying a going-away party for our dear friend, Will; a spectacularly fun concert at Bijou Theatre; post-show drinks at a speakeasy; and then we wrapped up the night at a bar where we heard – gasp! – “last call”.

Pre-dinner reunion with Matt
We each order a cocktail. They bring us each a shot. We could have complained, but instead… we drank! And then ordered a real drink!

Friday we, by chance, caught the Veteran’s Day Parade, along Gay Street where Laura proceeded to dance for, well, everyone [theme of the day], while I coyote-called [?] the sweet gentlemen going by.  Not soon after that, we were doing what we do second-best – shopping!  While we had the best of intentions to go out again for dinner that night, we definitely spent the night curled up in PJ’s and we may, or may not, have been in bed by 9:30p.  Not much has changed since high school with us…

Teigan channeling her inner Laura with her purse and Laura’s hair brush
Saturday was spent at the Farmer’s Market, having lunch with Matt and Ben, and running errands.  Oh, and plenty of good eatin’, sweets devouring, and vino consuming… and ABC Family watching.  Duh.

And I would say what we did on Sunday, but other than waking up at 4am to take off to the airport, there wasn’t much…

I miss you already, LLC.  And so does Teigan.  I swear I heard her say “Laura” yesterday…

Oh, and PS: If you think that those poor puppy coin slots at random registers at random stores go unnoticed to by society, you’re wrong.  Laura is single-handedly saving sad puppies one quarter [or twelve] at a time.  Exhibit A [and I could have gone to Q] at Yankee Candle…

Couch-Table Loungin’

In case you didn’t see this on facebook [and um, hello 2012!], probably the greatest picture of Teigan, ever.  This is her life with her Grandma Kathy and Grandpa Doug on Tuesday’s…

Stressful.  Clearly…

Core workouts for life – starting at 17 months!
Coach E$ Mama

PS :: Teigan turned 18 months yesterday.  A year and a half?  Holy WHAT?!

Well, this was a first.  Teigan was eating dinner.  I begin who-only-knows in the kitchen [which is where she was] for no more than 30 seconds.  I turn around to find this…

And, the best part is that I cleaned her, the space, and her highchair up, and this is what I end up with for the next 40 minutes…

Looks like we need to have her raking the yard more often!

Kidding!  Or am I?
